As I understand it OFGEM as from 23 June 2017 removed the requirement for suppliers to supply a TCR.
  • Hey @Saxifragas.

@Allanr is right, Ofgem does not require energy companies to display a TCR.

For those of you who don't know what a TCR is, I'll explain a bit about it.

A Tariff Comparison Rate (TCR) is a single figure that takes into account the standing charge, unit rate and any discounts that add up in the overall unit price of energy. This will differ between companies. It's similar to an APR% rate used to compare finance products.

It's calculated using the medium energy usage of a household. This is 3,200 kWh of electricity and 13,500 kWh of gas a year, as set by Ofgem.

Whilst it was thought to be a useful guide for the average energy user, it would not be so useful for those who are above or below the average. It also would not apply for economy 7 or economy 10 users.

Let us know if you think it would be a useful tool. Or if not, how could we make comparison easier?

  • @Saxifragas - you can see the full breakdown of charges on your statements. Let me know if you'd like me to DM you with your tariff details
