Bulb Have Stopped taking on new FIT customers

I have just been informed via the Bulb web chat that Bulb Have Stopped taking on new FIT customers.

I was also told that they do not have any recommendations for existing customers?

Anyone know if Bulb are financially ok, not going out of business

A quick Google search came up with https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/publications-and-updates/faq-fit-scheme-closure

One mustn't jump to conclusion about Bulb's financial situation. =)

  • Thank you Alanr
The statement talks about 31 March 2019 we are only 11 Feb 2019?
  • Catmur

I wonder whether there has been a misunderstanding with regards to it being closed to new customers, perhaps Bulb were meant to tell you it would actually cease on 31 March 2019. Bulb have also written a Blog at https://bulb.co.uk/blog/how-to-help-suppliers-support-small-scale-generators (the Blog by the way is dated today 11 February 2019).
  • Hi @Catmur - I spoke to the Feed In Tariff team yesterday about this, I'm convinced there have been some crossed wires here and it may be to do with what stage of installation you are at. I've asked the Feed-in Tariff team to get back to me and I'll post a more in depth answer when I receive it.

As for the financials, we're A-ok, and we've touched on it in quite a few other posts. We're focussing on growth, our investors are aware of this and actively encouraging it, and making a loss as a new startup is pretty expected as we dig in our foundations to establish ourselves in the market.

Hi again @Catmur, see below for some advice from the Feed In Tariff Team:

Hi @Catmur, thanks for taking the time to write this post.

You'll be glad to hear that Bulb's feed-in-tariff is still open and will continue to be open until the scheme closes on March 31st. Even from then will still be processing applications for those with MCS certificates dated in before March 31st 2019 until 2030. It does sound like there was a bit of confusion when you spoke to an energy specialist about the scheme and they have given you incorrect information about its closure.

If you are interested in registering your installation with us you can sign up for it at account.bulb.co.uk/fit-signup.

If you have any problems you can drop me an email at benedict@bulb.co.uk

Apologies for the mix up here. Let me know if I can help with anything else
  • Hi Bill

Not sure what to say, apart from thanks for your response.

I posted some questions about the FIT on your facebook page and also emailed same questions about the FIT but heard nothing back. I then went onto chat on your website and got this response from the person I had the chat with Tijan from Bulb, below is part of the chat,

I've spoken to a few of my colleagues and we believe this is industry wide
But it would be worth enquiring with other suppliers

is that your decision as the government made the change or does that apply to all FIT suplliers
    who would you recommend?

I do apologies and I'm going to tell the feed-in tariff team that that's something that needs updating

pity you didn't tell me that when I started to fill in the form

Unfortunately, since the government withdrew the feed-in tariff scheme (with effect from the 1st of April), we can only take on customers who have been on the scheme with a previous supplier
i.e. We only accept switches and not new connections
I had already started to complete the FIT online form as our PV installation had been completed. When I was told this I was really hacked off and started to look online to see what was going on. I found YouGen and got some ideas and then contacted nPower who have been extremely helpful and we have submitted our FIT application. BUT have also told them that you do not accept new customers for the FIT.
  • Hi @Catmur - That's understandable that you went to Npower after being given incorrect information, I'm sorry that the agent who took on the chat was misinformed, I think he was confused due to not all the documentation being in place at that time. You are more than welcome to begin the application with us if you'd like it all to be under one supplier. The team are being sent a reminder to get in touch with the Feed in Tariff team for edge cases such as this in future, as we obviously all want to avoid confusion.
