Billed both old and new Supplier as I change over...how can I stop this?

I have changed supplier to Bulb two days ago but I am being billed immediately, by Bulb and my old supplier, Ecotricity, for last month. How has this happened?

@david241 At Bulb we take a fixed payment in advance for the month ahead. So the first payment is taken on the day you switch. At the end of the month we send a statement summarising your usage based on meter readings, the cost of the energy you used, and the balance on the account. The reason we do this is so we can buy energy more effectively, saving you and all our other customers money.

We try to explain this during the switching process and in your Welcome Pack, but we understand that this is a slight change to what you’re used to and we’re working on explaining these things better.

So does that mean, for the first month, I have to pay my old supplier (for the months use) and Bulb (for a month in advance)?

I need to know this because I cancelled the direct debit.

Hey @david241 , essentially yes. So long as there are not overlapping periods i.e. the old supplier’s final bill ends on your switch date and your Bulb bills begin then too, the payments you make will even themselves out and you will not be double billed for any energy.
