I am switching from Ovo where my economy 7 meter was read using a single tariff. I see I have been put on the Economy 7 tariff how do I switch to the single tariff. I do not use enough overnight electric to warrant the hike in the day rate. I see from a post from Jan 2018 it is possible , it is not clear how to request it?
It is possible - but switching from prepayment to a credit meter currently involves a change of physical meter at a cost of £120 per meter (see Can I exchange my prepayment meter? – Bulb ). However, during this year Bulb are rolling out smart meters free of charge for customers and these can be remotely switched between prepayment and credit settings and so if you don’t have an urgent need to switch, then it’ll probably be worth waiting.
Before around Q2 last year, it was possible to be a single rate tariff with a dual rate tariff, but I believe Bulb were told not to allow that any more and they no longer off that.
thanks for the info, bulb could i have an official comment as this was not clear on the signup process. this is a deal breaker for me. cannot pay inflated economy 7 day rate. please advise asap.
I’ve just gone through the application process myself and on the final page ‘Get green energy for XX a month, Join Bulb now’ screen, it’s got the ‘See our tariff details’ link which provides information about a ‘Single rate meter’ and ‘Economy 7 meter’ - you have an Economy 7 meter (not single rate) and therefore the Economy 7 rates apply.
If you aren’t happy with this (despite this being presented to you before signup) and you are within the 14 days cooling off period, then you can cancel by following the instructions at Cancelling your switch to Bulb – Bulb . If it’s passed the cooling off period, you are free to switch to any other provider (such as back to Ovo) with no exit fee or contract length to worry about.
Bulb staff may see this forum post and respond, but usually they just leave us fellow customers to respond to each other on this community - only occasionally jumping in. If you need Bulb to state the above, you’ll need to contact them directly via email or phone at How to get in touch – Bulb .
unfortunately i have a legacy e7 meter, ie not storage heaters or bulk night usage. i am sure a lot of people do. Ovo put me on a single rate, so it is not unusual to expect this to be provided. i have not switched yet so i will contact bulb, thanks for link and see what can be resolved.
