Economy 7

Just wondering if somebody can give me some advice on economy 7. I currently have a dual rate meter for e7 which was in when I bought my house, having worked out my energy usage over the last 3 years I only use roughly 35% of my electric over night, usually on washing machine, dishwasher and dryer which I set to come on when it’s cheaper. Also I have central heating. My tariff is higher during the day to make up for the lower night tariff. I’ve just started the process to join bulb, is there a way to use my meter for a single tariff as I don’t want a smart meter fitted.

Bulb don’t allow this.

That does seem weird, I know of a few suppliers that do but like i’ve said i’ve never thought if it would be worth it or not. Looks like i’ll be sticking to reducing my day usage and increasing my night usage

You could always simply have the meter replaced with a single rate meter. Bulb will charge you £120 for this, but many of the bigger suppliers will do it for free. If that would work out better for you, best pull out of the switch to Bulb and get the meter changed first.

it’s not worth the hassle, as someone who was with economy energy, then just been moved to ovo by ofgem, i’ll let my move to bulb go through as I signed up with a £100 referral. It was just a though really.

Hi, I literally had the same thought as you did before joining bulb. I googled it and I could find a different answer in this forum from last year. It said that it is possible to have an E7 meter and a single-tariff… So maybe just contact the customer service

I think this article is the definitive answer Switching to Bulb with an Economy 7 meter – Bulb this says you must be on a two rate tariff.

It used to be allowed. It’s not allowed any more.
