Electricity for electric vehicles

With the push for electric vehicles, how does this square with the dire warnings we get before Winter most years, that electricity generation capacity is near its limit, and if there is high demand in cold weather there could be powers cuts?

Hi @Conrad , the take up of electric vehicles is still very much in it’s infancy and the numbers of electric vehicles will definitely be impacting the grid once the numbers start reaching the millions rather than the hundreds of thousands.

The most likely outcome will be that electric vehicles are encouraged to be charged at times of lower demand, by offering “Time-of-Day” tariff where the unit rate is lowers to make it cheaper to charge the vehicle. This will be easier in a world of smart meters and Bulb hope to be providing innovative tariff in the future to make electric vehicle ownership super affordable!
