Electricity meter access

Hello Bulb,

I’m currently switching from E.ON to Bulb as I heard good things about you lot! I wanted to ask this question because my meter is locked behind a door and needs a key to open it but it costs £50 to lease because of the Camden Council in our area. The gas meter is in the council flat so I was wondering in 6 days could someone from Bulb get access and pay for the cost or do I have to?

Cheers!

@ZenMasterStef thanks for getting touch. Do you mean the key costs £50 to lease? That doesn’t sound right. Are there any building managers or landowners who can give you access to your meters? We won’t be able to cover any of these costs unfortunately.

I read here that it’s for safety for tenants unfortunately the council is strict on this because of how people are in the area where I live. http://camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/housing/council-tenants-and-leaseholders/parking-on-council-estates/access-to-meter-cupboards/

I read here that the supplier can request a meter test https://www.gov.uk/guidance/electricity-meter-accuracy-disputes
I sent an enquiry to check the meter should be around 5 days.

Hopefully when smart meters arrive soon this won’t be an issue.

@ZenMasterStef That sounds quite a lot of hassle just to get the meter read!

Normally, when we send out our own engineers to read the meter they would require access to the meter itself, it doesn’t sound like it’s a normal meter box key so they won’t be able to get in I’m afraid.

I was wondering if you had an email address for your council? We could send them an email regarding access to the meter from a supplier point of view.

@“SJ at Bulb” I’m not entirely sure what their email is. It should be one of the three councilors in belsize park. This is their call centre link: http://camden.gov.uk/ccm/content/contacts/council-contacts/council-and-democracy/contact-the-customer-service-centre/

This is one of the councilors representing in our area:

I got a reply email from Office for Product Safety and Standards saying "
Determinations need to be arranged through your electricity supplier as the meter is generally their property."
I sent a general enquiry email to camden as well.

Hello? My meter readings are due today please get back to me ASAP! This is my last reading 5 months ago.

You would have to get a key from the council and deposit £50 since I can’t.

Can’t Morrison Data Services help?

@“Owen at Bulb” Hello sorry for the confusion the supplier has to leave a £50 deposit to get the key not me.

Also could you take a look at my smart meter test application thanks!

Emailed bulb Chris said you’re switching metering partners to Siemens in the middle of may.

Correct!

Hi @ZenMasterStef, did you get a meter read completed following your request? We’re looking into it for you.

@“Ella at Bulb” Chris said to wait until you switch partners, I’ll contact you then!
