Faulty meter reader

We have a faulty meter , it’s lights up but no meter reading and if you try to update the meter it just beeps.
It’s a old British gas meter .

Hi there @Wright just to check, you’re talking about a physical meter attached to the wall, not the little portable screen that comes with smart meters? That little screen will stop working once you switch away from the supplier that installed the smart meters. If you do mean the physical meter, then it sounds like we’ll have to get it fixed or replaced.
