FIT payments - why are meter readings needed?

I signed up for the FIT through Bulb a couple of months ago, so should receive our first FIT payment soon. When I had a look at the FAQs about it, it said that Bulb would ask for a meter reading, to calculate how much we should receive - but we don’t have an export meter, and the normal consumption meters have nothing to do with how much electricity we export from our solar panels. My understanding was that the payments are based on the generating capacity of our installation, and its installation date.

Could someone please clarify why meter readings are needed?

Hi @boggissimo ,

By looks of things you might either have an export meter, a generator meter or a smart meter (based on https://help.bulb.co.uk/hc/en-us/sections/360002617671-Feed-in-Tariff-meters-and-meter-readings ) which provides the details. If you don’t have an export or generator meter (based on https://help.bulb.co.uk/hc/en-us/articles/360018591751-How-are-FIT-payments-calculated- ), then it’ll either be paid based on the type of installation or the export tariff. However, Bulb will still need your normal consumption meter readings for general billing/usage data and when, such as during the dark winter, when you will not be generating as much as normal.

@boggissimo You should still have a generation meter which is where we need the meter reading from? Can you confirm if this is the case?

Yes, we have a generation meter, is that what you need a reading of? The FAQ implied it was the normal usage/consumption meter reading that was required.

@boggissimo When we are asking for a FIT meter reading the generation meter is what we need it from. Let me know if you have any further questions
