We are new customers but my partner has asked a question about green gas/renewable gas. How is gas renewable or is there a process for converting waste into methane/natural gas. Basically he’s wondering how green is our gas supply?
Hi @wendy822 , great question. 10% of our gas comes from biomethane. That’s gas produced from organic matter like sewage and manure - which is then reinjected onto the grid (minus the smell).
If you’re interested in the different processes used and where this stuff comes from, check out this page on our site https://bulb.co.uk/energy/whereitsfrom .
It’s green because the gas produced from this method is effectively carbon neutral. It’s using the natural carbon cycle to produce fuel instead of fossil fuels which increase the overall carbon emissions. I hope that makes some sense, would love to hear your thoughts
