I believe the methodology used by Bulb to calculate DD increases is flawed.

If you have sufficient credit in your account to pay in advance for one months energy then you don’t need to increase your DD payment.

You are able to control your DD payment via the “Account & tariff info” page at: https://account.bulb.co.uk/dashboard/personal-details .

If you don’t have enough credit then I would suggest you increase your DD to the amount showing under “Average monthly usage” in your “Payments & statements” at: https://account.bulb.co.uk/dashboard/payments-and-statements

We do suggest a payment increase to

  • Members whose average usage is £5 more than their monthly payments
  • Members who don’t have at least two month’s winter buffer in their account
  • Members who do have 2 months winter buffer in their account but their current monthly payment is still too low

So, even if your account has a healthy enough credit now to avoid building up debt this winter, your payments should be high enough to build credit up again for the next winter.

This is only advice though. If you’re on top of your payments and know that what you’re paying will cover what you use longer term, you can change both the amount and the date at any time in your online Bulb.

If you’ve not given us a meter reading in a while, it would good to update us with one so we can recalculate.

I received an email this morning telling me that my bill was now over £4000. I am in a new build flat. It is small and well insulated, and holds the heat well as it is between other flats. I keep trying to submit my gas reading using a photo, because it wont accept the number as it is lower than the estimated. It accepts electricity ok, but now they send me this. How can this be?
I only moved in at the end of August and have only just turned on the heating.
