Hi I’ve received a letter from national grid saying my meter has reached its life span and they are coming to change it on Friday is this a scam

My gas meter was due to be replaced last week even though it’s a digital one so must be reasonably new? Turns out its the battery that is nearing the end of its life and they no longer stock it, so they would like to replace before it does go flat and needs replacing urgently.

Given the replacement is not a smart meter and I don’t want the meter replacing twice in a short space of time they suggested a delay of 6 months for a dummy date and I can reconsider then if there is still no sign of smart meter arriving.

@Sheila65, purely from a waste standpoint, I’d hold off on this replacement until Bulb supply/offer you a smart meter.

There’s no point replacing the meter twice within the next two years.
