Meter was exchanged by network operator

A while ago my gas meter was exchanged for a new one as part of routine maintenance. They told me they would forward the reading of the old one and the new one (which doesn’t start at 0) and arrange all that with you. However, when I now go to enter a meter reading, the system doesn’t reflect that exchanged meter at all, and instead just tells me the last standing I sent in myself, of the old meter. If I do enter a new reading, will the system think I’ve used a ton of gas over the past couple of months?
