Smart meter roll out

Can you give me an update on the smart meter please? We were just about to box in our big old meter so changing now would be ideal for us.

We’re on track to start rolling out second generation smart meters by the end of 2018.

The timeline has been pushed back from the original plan of January 2018 because of industry-wide software delays that impact all suppliers.

This software, which is commissioned by the Government, is still not functioning as it should. Unfortunately, all energy suppliers are waiting for this software to be fully functional before installing second generation (SMETS2) smart meters in larger volumes.

We will be in touch with you as soon as we can to install a smart meter for you.

If you want to join our smart trial, please fill out this form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10kQ9xBGxZPDNPs5EWkk-8oEDNDvCj-VMWVfTNUzW5b0/viewform?edit_requested=true

I have completed the trial form and I’m interested to know whether you can provide any additional info on the smart meters? Not so much regarding the dates etc as I appreciate that you are under certain constraints as far as that is concerned. But more to do with what the benefits will be. Obviously, there will be benefits for Bulb and the other energy companies as you will always know how much we are all consuming. But from the users’ angle - what will we get? What kind of in-home device will come with the meter? Will there be an accompanying app? Or is it still too soon for these kinds of details?

@Bascule

It is too soon for some of that information. But the new generation 2 smart meters will mean we can take readings remotely from the meter, you will be able to view your real time consumption via the in home display and if you switch away it will continue to work with other suppliers. We will be able to confirm more hopefully in the not too distant future :slight_smile:

Thanks. Look forward to seeing what’s in store :slight_smile:

@Bascule we’re super excited
