Smart Meter to Powerwall compatability

I have been sent this message from Tesla that indicates that a certain type of smart meter is incompatible with a Powerwall installation

We are keen to book a Smart Meter installation as we have Economy 7, a Powerwall 2 and two Tesla EVs

Here is the script from the letter.

Subject: Important information about your smart meter

Dear Powerwall owner,

We have received reports that, under some circumstances, there can be an incompatibility issue between the Tesla Powerwall storage system and the Landis+Gyr E470 100mm smart meter. In some cases this may result in inaccurate utility meter readings; the impact varies but could be up to +/- 5kWh per day on some sites.

Tesla Powerwall is certified to all appropriate standards for home storage systems and the problem only appears to occur with this particular model of Landis+Gyr meter. All other meters tested, including another model of Landis+Gyr meter, are unaffected. Where the meter has been replaced, no further issues have occurred.

Hello @peterthepilot,

Welcome to Bulb’s community! :raised_hands:

There are some compatibility issue currently with some kinds of smart meter with the Powerwall storage system, which we’re working on resolving. The advice at the moment would be to wait for a 5 terminal smart meter installation which shouldn’t cause any issues. These are in the pipeline to be rolled out over the next few months, so it won’t be long to wait.

Let me know if you’ve got any more questions about this at all.

Thanks,
Freya :bulb:
